Product Entry

The product entry area is divided into two parts. The top part of the screen shows the primary information about the product such as product name and price.

The bottom half of the screen enables more detail to be entered about the product in various tabs. Each tab is covered in it's own section.

Picture

To import a picture simply click on the picture area and either paste a picture in from your clipboard or select 'Import Picture' from the 'Picture' menu to import a picture file from your hard disk.

Instant-Shop will accept a wide range of different picture formats including BMP, TIFF, JPEG and Photoshop files. The optimum size for a picture is 400 x 400 pixels. Instant-Shop will scale your graphic automatically to fit this size.

Tip: If you hold the option key down while you import the image the picture will not be rescaled. This allows much bigger images to be inserted if required.

Part Code

Part codes are recommended by Instant-Shop. If part codes are used they will not by default be displayed on the web site but they will be included on the order. If part codes are not entered, Instant-Shop will automatically adjust its layout to take hide the fact that there are no part codes available.

Ref

The ref field is the unique Instant-Shop reference to your product. This is never displayed on the web. It appears on this screen for information purposes only.

Product

This field is for the product name.

Prices

The price is the normal amount charged for product. Clicking on the small triangle next to the Price title cycles through a series of predefined price prefixes. Clicking on the small triangle to the right of the price cycles through a series of prefdefined price suffixes. Price prefixes and Price suffixes can be defined here.

Prices can also be modified by adding options or extra products in the subproducts table.

Price discounts can also be specified.

Tip: You can enter your prices with or without VAT depending on whether you are selling to consumers or to other businesses. Enter your VAT settings in the Sales Tax screen.

Category

The category popup menu allows the user to select a primary category for the product. To select a category click on the arrow at the end of the menu.

If no categories have been defined then this popup menu will not be shown.

It is possible to allocate the product to multiple categories in the category tab.

Status

The default status of a product is 'Available'. This means that the product will be featured on the web site to buy. By changing the status to 'Not Available' the product will be removed from the website but it will still exist in the database.

Pro Users only: Instant-Shop Pro allows the user to select 'Preorder' from this menu. Preordering takes an order for something that is going to be available in the future. If a customer preorders an item they are taken directly into the Invoice Details page on the site to complete the preorder process.

Featured Product

If a product is marked as a featured product it will appear at the top of the products list when displaying a category.

Special Offer

Special Offer is a special category maintained by Instant-Shop. By clicking Special Offer the product will automatically be added to the special offer category. If the special offer category does not exist it will automatically be created and the product will be assigned to this group.

Disable Buy Button

Some products featured in Instant-Shop will not be available for purchase because they are too expensive or not suitable for a typical credit card purchase etc, but still need to be featured in the catalogue. Clicking 'Disable Buy Button' will remove the buy button for the product in the shop so it cannot be purchased.

Extra Fields

Pro Users only: If extra fields have been defined then they will be displayed in between the category menu and the status popup menu. For more details on Extra Fields click here.

It is a good practise to show your company details on the site. This gives the customer confidence that they can get in touch with you if they have a problem with their purchase. The company address will be displayed at the bottom of each page.

There are some instances where the address will not be required ie if it is part of the theme or if the site is part of an intranet ordering system. The address can be removed from the footer by turning on the 'Don't display company details in page footer' checkbox. It is highly recommended that you do not click this checkbox.

If you are accessing this page as part of the setup wizard the save and cancel buttons will be replaced by a next and back button. Click 'Next' to go to the next screen in the wizard.

Alternatively click 'Save' to save your changes and close the screen. Click 'Cancel' to close the screen without making changes.
